In a few words, tell us about Your Happy Nest!

Your Happy Nest is childcare placement agency that can help you find a nanny, babysitter, newborn care specialist/night nurse, or special event sitter. We are located in Atlanta, GA, Charleston, SC, Augusta, GA and Cincinnati, OH.

Do you remember the moment in your life when you decided to start you own business? What was the driver behind it? How did you feel after making that big decision?

I was working for another agency in Atlanta and I just felt that there was so much more I wanted to do with the business but it wasn’t my own so there was only so much I could do! I found out I was pregnant with my first child and was working very part time as a nanny so I had a lot of time to really focus on getting things rolling. I had always wanted to own a business and it just felt like the right thing to do and was the right time to do it!

What is your mama mantra?

Love. Play. Nourish. Don’t sweat the small stuff. (This is easier said than done some days!)

What woman in your life inspires you the most?

It might sound cliche but I have to say my mom! After having children, you learn to appreciate your mom on a new level. My mom helps me be a better mother every day through her calm guidance, creativity and boundless love for my children.

What does your perfect day look like?

I am so fortunate to call Charleston my home so a perfect day is a weekend day where we can play at the beach in the morning with our girls, go out to lunch at one of Charleston’s many amazing restaurants and then just have some down time at home to be together as a family.

How do you juggle being a business owner, wife and mother to two adorable little girls?

I am very lucky in that I have a job where I can feel fulfilled and help contribute to my family but also spend quality time with my girls during the day. I’ve never had to miss a school function and I can set my work schedule around my family life. There are definitely days when it gets tricky when I have a lot of work that needs my attention and two cute girls who need my attention! I just try to set designated time that I can really focus on work and then set time when I can focus on my kids.

What is the most satisfying part of your job?

The most satisfying part of my job is making the perfect match for both the family and nanny. Families sometimes come to me so stressed out because they are having a hard time finding the right fit for their family. When I can find the perfect nanny for them and you can feel a sense of relief, it is very rewarding. It is also a wonderful feeling to help an amazing nanny find the best “nanny family” who truly respects and appreciates what she does for their family.

What are your secrets to relax and unwind?

I think for me it is important to have adult time. I take a pottery class once a week with women of all different ages and backgrounds and it is a great way for me to do something totally different from my day to day routine. I also try to make time to go out with my husband and friends. As much as I love my children, I need that adult interaction and separation sometimes to be a better mom to them!

If you could give families looking for a nanny one piece of advice what would it be?

Experience and certifications/education are all very important but what it comes down to is someone who you click with and are on the same page as far as your style of parenting. Don’t overlook a nanny just because she might not be on paper 100% what you had in mind. You might be surprised that you end up clicking with someone who was totally different than what you thought you wanted in a nanny!

What does the future look like for Your Happy Nest?

We are very fortunate that Your Happy Nest has gotten busier each year we have been in business and expanded to new cities in the last two years. I hope that we can continue to provide a good service to families in our current cities and hopefully find new locations to open a branch of Your Happy Nest in the future!

Any words of wisdom to share with women who own small businesses?

It takes time to get your business going and you have to be persistent and stick with it. If you provide a good service and put your heart into what you do, your hard work will pay off.
